This is an old revision of the document!

  • basel.lan (former strg2).
    • add proper password
    • We have 5 HDDs, need 6. Check what is in CMPT1, to see if we can use those.
    • setup via Ansible
  • dl2
    • Set up OS;
    • Check power usage
  • CMPT2
    • Set up, everything is available.
  • CMPT3
    • Check what is on the HDDs before removing
    • Check whether the HDDs are working or throwing errors. They might be used for the basel.lan
  • Added SSD for data (1TB Samsung 860 PRO) to CMPT2. Used the 3.5“ front entry.
  • Added RAID controller 'HPE Smart Array P440ar Controller' to basel.lan. Trying out different cable configurations. This will manage the SSD Cage.
  • Added RAID Controller P440 to basel.lan. This manages the HDD cage. Checked and working.
  • Added Cable from mainboard SAS controller to individual SSDs (no cage, SAS → multiple SATA) for OS. Set up logical device (i.e. its working).

Notes:

  • The P440ar can not be accessed from within the UEFI, since it relies on the smart array storage utilities of HP, which require the flash memory of the ilo, which is corrupted and cannot be replaced.
  • The idea is to manage it later on within the OS.
  • DL2: Added heatsink to SSD
  • DL2: Added SSD (512GB) for OS.
  • Basel: Added all available 4GB Ram sticks (56GB)
  • Basel: Added second CPU
  • Basel: Set up SoftRaid1 for Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS (separate RAID1 for boot/root/swap) on two 1TB Samsung HDDs. Note: Only good tutorial at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQKMlRsEWRE
  • All RAM sticks (DDR3) that fit into 'basel' were tested without finding a failure.
  • Added the 1TB 980 PRO NVME M.2 SSD to the DL2. (Note: From patrick, currently not used). Note: It has no heatsink right now.
  • Set up Laptop in server room for maintenance → passphrases available in Bitwarden
  • Testing out 4GB RAM sticks using Ubuntus 'memchecker'
  1. Moved RAID Cache from the open/broken HPE ProLiant ML350p to the strg2.
  2. SSD 128GB SATA MZ7KE128 can not be combined with the two `10K SAS 300GB 653955` in a cage. The RAID controller doesn't allow selecting them together for a logical unit.
